Qualifications for Communication Officers

The Pageland Police Department has a Communications Division/Dispatch that operates 24/7, 365 days a year. Communications positions are a non-sworn position.

Requirement for Communications Officer:

Must be a U.S. citizen.
Must be 18 years of age (birth certificate required).
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent (documentation required).
Must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
Must not have committed or been convicted of a felony or serious misdemeanor

PREREQUISITES: 

  • Applicant cannot have a criminal record.
  • Applicant must be of good character and be temperate in habits.
  • Applicant cannot have DUI or DUS or any driving suspensions that occurred within the past ten (10) years.
  • Applicant must have a good employment history.

A complete background investigation for criminal convictions and drivers license violation record will be conducted through local, state, and national criminal record agencies.  The Pageland Police Department will not consider applicants for a Communications position who have:

  • A criminal record
  • Physical or psychological deficiency which cannot be overcome
  • A background that reflects poor character

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must pass a drug/physical screening
  • Must pass a background investigation
  • Must have a basic knowledge of computers and software
  • Must be able to dispatch officers to calls for service
  • Must be able to answer the telephone and have good communication skills

Applicants do not have to live in SC to be a Communications Officer/Dispatcher
